NaNoWriMo. In all likelihood, you probably know what it is. That epic internet challenge of writing without ceasing for a whole month #doyoulikehowisurreptitiouslyincludedeveryoneintheopeningparagrapheveniftheydidntknowaboutnano.
It has STARTED TODAY. I write... or I fail. The gauntlet has been thrown down. The challenge has been accepted. The monkey has tamed the badger.
This evening I have enjoyed the online company of a brave band of fellow Brightonian writers hoping to reach that magical 50,000 word count. We welcomed in the new month with several 'Word War' challenges and plenty of chatroom banter.
A good start, I think.
If you're attempting NaNoWriMo too this year, do find me on the link below. I'd be happy to compare notes/talk/stay up late/share manly stories/in the morning I'm making waffles.
Yonder doth be the link-eth to my profile... eth!
The story I am writing, regrettably, has changed from my original plans. This is because my sources of inspiration have changed as my life circumstances have... changed...! (See postscript)
Basically what I'm saying is that I'm writing a story about a school because I'm a trainee teacher. I'm hopeful that this project may well be something really special.
Yes.. I'm aware that I've said that about a lot of things I've started...
You can expect the full thing on my Deviant Art Page (or, maybe more realistically, as much as I get done!) after I give it the once over after November. By Christmas. Or New Year. We'll see.
Thanks once again for your love, your feedback, and your support. See you on the other side.
P.S: As much to myself as to anyone else: Don't worry. I'm not giving up on Rethsvale just yet. There's more to come from that place...!
It's been a while.
Hi there. I've spent some time today reading a few bits and pieces from my works on this page. I wrote this stuff way, WAY back, during 2012 and 2013. It's been such a long time, I've actually forgotten ever writing these bits and pieces. I'm reading these pieces as if I were reading someone else's work. That's how it feels in a lot of ways. But in a weird way... I remember what inspired them. I recall the characters, the emotions I felt. The intensity behind it all. I really got a lot out of the whole 'creative writing' thing. Even though it was a pretty short burst of action here - perhaps a few months, or a year - I do still recall it being a satisfying, happy time. I was expressing stuff (through fiction, of course) that, at the very least, came from the heart. Not to mention exercising my imagination, too. Lots of good things. I'm a different man, now. I just turned 30. Coming back and reading through this stuff makes me wince at times. But I'm also genuinely impressed at
Whoa.
Hold the phone.
I've been to Romania this week, and got back yesterday. After returning to my place in old Brighton town, I logged on to find that Goggles in Mireview had been gifted a Daily Deviation by neurotype-on-discord (https://www.deviantart.com/neurotype-on-discord)! My profile was awash with views, favourites, and so on.
This is so unexpected and sudden. I am stunned. I feel encouraged. And humbled. And happy. And grateful!
I haven't enjoyed this feeling for a long time...
If you haven't seen it yet, here is the piece in question:
It would be unjust not to vocalise my gratitude. A massive shout to those of you who have looked at Goggles in Mireview, read it, and commented/faved/enjoy
Time Waits For No Man...
Well. What a year.
First of all, to that small group of folks who have enjoyed my scribblings of the past, I apologise. I include myself in that tiny demographic. I've done myself a disservice this year by neglecting what is my favourite hobby. I regret that.
However, although it is true that I have had time to write - time which I haven't used - the opportunities have been few and far between. I have trained to be a maths teacher this year, and only got my QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) Certificate through this week. My graduation is tomorrow! It's been a remarkable journey in which I have grown as a teacher and as a person. But it's been
My goodness!
Five months since my last Journal! Cray-zay!
Anyway, an update from me and my goings on on the beautiful Deviant Art. Thanks for your continued support!
1) For the Summer break, I've been working on a story called 'Litwak and Leaver'. It's a fan-fic of the Disney Movie 'Wreck it Ralph'. I don't normally go in for fan fiction unless I'm truly captivated by a story, and Wreck it Ralph did just that! I'm planning on finishing this... and now I've put it in my Journal, I have to... :S
If you're up for something fun to read, check it out!
2) I've started a rather exciting collaboration with none other than HugQueen (https://www.deviantart.com/hugqueen)! It's a letter s
